Dobrzynski Named Capital District Women of the Year Award Recipient

Women’s Lacrosse Standout Becomes Third Consecutive Siena Student-Athlete to Earn This Recognition

LOUDONVILLE, NY – From excelling on the lacrosse field to achieving her goals in the classroom and to caring for those in the community, the recently graduated Grace Dobrzynski has been donned the honor of being named one of the 2025 Capital District Sports Women of the Year (CDSWOY), the organization announced on Tuesday.

It marks the third consecutive year in which a student-athlete from Siena has been bestowed the honor of being recognized by the CDSWOY. In 2024, Siena was represented by diver Talia Spenziero and in 2023, the Saints were represented by cross country runner Olivia Lomascolo.

An awards gala is scheduled for Monday, August 4 at 7:00 p.m. at the GE Theatre at Proctors in Schenectady. Tickets will be available for purchase through the Capital District Sports Women of the Year website. Tickets are sold individually for $25 and children five and under are free.

"Grace has been an exemplary student athlete, embodying what it means to be a good person, teammate and community member all while modestly achieving great success," said Siena head coach Danielle Schwan-Tetreault.

"She has worked extremely hard for her accomplishments, becoming the all-time points leader of the program and leaving her name all over the record books while still finding time to flourish socially, academically and give back to the community. Not only is her success shown in the numbers she put on the scoreboard and her grades in the classroom, but in her incredible resilience to recover from a season ending injury and still perform and compete at the highest level.  She has been an inspiration to her teammates, and an incredible ambassador of the Saints program. We cannot wait to see her flourish in the medical field and in life beyond."

The West Greenwich, RI native graduated as a "4.0 GPA club recipient", earning her degree in Biology as she walked to receive her diploma in May. Named as a nominee to the Allstate NACDA Good Work Team by the Team Selection Committee in April for contributing over 270 hours of community service to the Double H Ranch as a camp counselor to those with severe and life-threatening illnesses, as a shadow to a skilled wound care physician on rounds to nursing facilities and as a coach to youth lacrosse camps at Siena.

On the lacrosse field, the product of La Salle Academy was a two-time captain on the team, a two-time All-MAAC First Team choice and departs as the program's all-time leading scorer (256 points) and all-time assist leader (174 assists). Named to the All-MAAC Championship Team, she tallied a goal and eight assists in postseason games against Quinnipiac and versus Fairfield.

Academically, she was just as worthy of a candidate as she was named a three-time College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District selection. Additionally, she was a MAAC All-Academic Team and MAAC Academic Honor Roll member throughout her collegiate years. Inducted to Phi Sigma Gamma Sigma National Honor Society in Biology, Dobrzynski also received the Siena College Award for Excellence in the major field of biology. She was a back-to-back winner as the Siena Athletics Female Student-Athlete of the Year in the "Bernie Awards" for the school years 2023-2024 and 2024-2025. As a member of Siena's Science, Humanities and Medicine program, she gained acceptance to Siena and Albany Medical College bridge program to become a doctor.

Created in 2019 and currently honoring its sixth class, the Capital District Sports Women of the Year organization (CDSWOY) honors the best and brightest female student athletes from high schools and colleges in the Capital District of New York State. The student-athletes are recognized for their achievements in academics, athletics, and community service.

A total of 10 high school and four college female student-athletes will be honored at the August 4 event. More information is provided at cdswoy.com.
