Men’s Basketball Earns NABC Academic Acclaim

Saints Claim Third Straight Team Academic Excellence Award, Three Individuals Named to Honors Court

LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Siena Men's Basketball program has been recognized by the National Association of Basketball Coaches for its success in the classroom this past season. The Saints earned a 2024-25 NABC Team Academic Excellence Award, and three student athletes received recognition as part of the NABC Honors Court.

"Education is one of the NABC's five core values, and we are proud to recognize the academic accomplishments of these programs and individual student athletes across our sport," said NABC Executive Director Craig Robinson. "The dedication and hard work of these athletes, along with their coaches and support staff members who prioritize academic success, deserves to be widely celebrated."

The Siena Men's Basketball program earns an NABC Team Academic Excellence Award for the third consecutive season, and just the fourth time ever (2019-20, 2022-23, 2023-24, 2024-25). The NABC Team Academic Excellence Award recognizes men's basketball programs which completed the 2024-25 academic year with a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher. Siena was one of nearly 400 men's basketball teams encompassing all levels of college basketball to receive the honor, including one of only three Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference programs to earn acclaim (Marist, Mount St. Mary's).

The Siena Men's Basketball program achieved a 3.17 GPA for the 2024-25 academic year. Through the conclusion of the most recent spring semester, the Saints maintain a stellar 3.28 cumulative GPA. Siena achieved a 3.24 GPA this past spring, with seven student athletes earning recognition on the Dean's List (3.50-3.89) for the semester.

Individually, rising seniors Brendan Coyle and Marcus Jackson and former Saint Peter Carey earned recognition on the NABC Honors Court, which recognizes academic juniors, seniors, and graduate students who finished the 2024-25 school year with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher. The trio was amongst more than 2,400 honorees across all collegiate levels, and three of 11 total MAAC honorees.

Coyle maintains a stellar 3.70 cumulative GPA while majoring in Finance. The local product from nearby Niskayuna, New York was named to the Dean's List following the conclusion of both semesters this past school year. Coyle was honored as the Siena College Leo and Jeannine Dufort Male Student Athlete of the Month back in December, when he also earned MAAC Male Student Athlete of the Week honors on Dec. 4. He also earned 2024-25 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District and MAAC All-Academic Team acclaim this past season.

Jackson holds 3.37 cumulative GPA as a Communications-Sports major. The Amsterdam, New York native posted a strong 3.77 GPA this past spring to secure Dean's List recognition.

A product of Sunderland, Massachusetts, Carey wrapped up this past school year with a 3.33 cumulative GPA while majoring in History.
