The Siena Women's Tennis got their season underway at the Colgate Invitational over this past weekend and saw mixed results in matching up with competition versus the host Raiders as well as Le Moyne and MAAC rival Niagara.
Overall, Siena had a record of 7-10 in singles play and 2-4 in doubles competition.
The Saints went 3-7 in singles and 1-1 in doubles on Saturday and then followed that up by running a record of 4-3 in singles play and 1-3 in doubles play on Sunday.
Notably, freshman
Selma Bellaouchi of Casablanca, Morocco, secured a winning singles record with a mark of 3-2 after picking up all three victories on Sunday against Lily Dematas of Niagara 7-6 (4), Adelie Wilson of Le Moyne 7-6 (4) and Sasha Herman of Colgate 1-6, 6-1, 10-3.
Junior
Manuela Gomez earned a pair of victories, topping Le Moyne's Ella Fernando 6-3, 7-5 after dispatching of Colgate's Paige Rothwell 6-2 in a six-game singles set.
Seniors
Madeline De Faber-Schumacher and
Reegan Mullaney each secured one victory as well.
In doubles play, the team of De Faber-Schumacher and Mullaney bested the Colgate duo of Anson Silverfield and Anya Kunar 6-3.
On Sunday, Gomez and Vargas held off Emma Sanchez and Ella Fernando of Le Moyne 6-4.
Siena will now get ready to take part in the MAAC Master's Tournament this coming weekend from Oct. 3-5 at the Quinnipiac Athletic & Recreation Center in Hamden, CT.
The single-elimination formatted tournament will determine the women's tennis singles and doubles representatives at the 2025 ITA Conference Master's Championship, which will take place at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, CA from Nov. 6-9.
Four singles players will qualify for the NCAA Singles championship (semifinalists) and three doubles teams will qualify for the NCAA Doubles championship through the Conference Masters (champion, finalist, third place).
