LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Siena Men's Tennis team will have one more student athlete joining the roster for the upcoming 2025-26 season as head coach
Alex Van Cott announced the arrival of Serbian
Mateja Stefanovic.
Stefanovic, who holds a UTR rating of 11.30, hails from Kragujevac, Serbia and held a career record of 23-12 on ITF World Junior circuit. Academically, he held a 3.75 GPA.
"We are happy to add Mateja to the roster. He brings a focused, hard-working and disciplined mentality to our roster. We are looking forward to watching him develop as a person and as a player here at Siena," said coach Van Cott.
Of note, Stefanovic reached the final of the J30 Zlatibor Tournament in Serbia after earning four consecutive straight set victories over Strahinja Albijanic, Ilham Bakhshaliev, Nikola Mateovic and Aleksa Postic last September.
The 19-year-old also reached the final of the J30 Niksic Tournament in Montenegro last June after four more wins, defeating Montenegro's Danilo Stojovic 6-0, 6-0, Bulgaria's Vasil Rusanov 6-2, 6-2, Poland's Tymon Litwic in three sets, and Serbia's Marko Dragovic, who retired in second set with Stefanovic in the lead.
Other new additions to the team under second-year coach Van Cott will be junior transfers
Matteo Castellazzi and
Sviatoslav Koliadynskyi as well as freshmen
Mars Argun and
Santiago Trujillo.
Senior
Zino Varouhas-Poole and sophomores
Bruno Loch Varella and
Emilio Zavala Salinas are also set to return.
The Siena Men's Tennis Team will look to rebound after last season's 6-13 finish (5-3 in the MAAC) that included a MAAC semifinals appearance against Rider.
