LOUDONVILLE, NY — For a conference-high third time this season, Siena Women's Basketball freshman
Francesca Schiro has been named the Air Force Reserve Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Week. Schiro nearly averaged a double-double during a 2-0 week for the Saints, posting 18.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.
In Siena's New Year's Day victory over Mount St. Mary's, Schiro recorded the first double-double of her career with 14 points and a career-high, game-best 12 rebounds. She followed that performance with her fifth 20-point game of the season in the Saints' Jan. 3 win at Iona, scoring a team-high 23 points on 50% shooting (8-for-16). Schiro also tied for the team lead with two steals against the Gaels and totaled seven assists across the two games.
With back-to-back double-digit scoring performances, Schiro now leads the Saints with 10 such games this season. Her 23-point effort at Iona marked her fifth 20-point outing of the year, and she remains the only Siena player to reach the 20-point mark this season. Additionally, her 12-rebound performance against the Mount made her just the third Saint this year to collect double-digit rebounds in a game.
Schiro and the Saints return to action at 11 a.m. on Thursday when Siena hosts Rider for the program's annual Kids Day game.
