Gritty Saints Turn Back Bearcats in Thrilling Duel

Nicholson scores career-high five goals

Junior Olivia Nicholson scored a career-high five goals including four in the second half, Elizabeth Wamp flipped the momentum at the tail end of the first half and Monmouth transfer Sara Curley provided a scoring spark as the Siena Women's Lacrosse team rallied past host Binghamton 13-11 on Friday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex in Vestal.

Siena (2-0) trailed 4-2 just past the midway point of the first quarter, but pecked away at the lead and took it over for good when Wamp scored twice within a 1:22 span in the closing moments of the half to give the Saints a 7-6 advantage at the break.

In the third quarter, the Saints gained momentum with Nicholson scoring twice, including a free position goal at 11:42, assisted by Pollicino later at 9:42. Binghamton responded with Jess Robinson's man-up goal at 10:53. Belsito added to Siena's lead at 8:43, while Curley found the net at 4:41. The Bearcats kept the pressure on with goals from Carla Curth and Emma Blloshmi, who scored twice, including a free position goal at 1:42. Despite Binghamton's late push, Siena maintained a 12-10 lead by the end of the quarter.

Binghamton's Mia Forte scored on a free position shot at 8:19, reducing the deficit. The Saints responded with a man-up goal by Nicholson, assisted by Curley, at the 4:59 mark, maintaining their advantage. Binghamton (0-2) had a chance to close the gap further, but Siena's McAllister Salter made several key saves, including one against Blloshmi's free position shot with 14 seconds remaining. The quarter ended with both teams adding a goal, resulting in a final score of 13-11 in favor of Siena.

The first quarter commenced with Siena securing the initial draw control, but the Bearcats struck first with Leah Kaufer scoring at 11:48, assisted by Blloshmi. Binghamton quickly doubled its advantage when Blloshmi found the net again at 10:56, with Robinson providing the assist. The Saints responded with goals from Curley at 9:40 and Nicholson at 7:52, the latter assisted by Pollicino, leveling the score at 2-2. However, Binghamton regained momentum as Brooke Bort scored at 4:38, assisted by Forte, and Curth added another goal at 1:17, assisted by Gretel Cassell, giving the Bearcats a 4-2 lead at the end of the quarter.

Siena overcame an early deficit in the second quarter to secure a 7-6 lead by the end. Cass Belsito opened the scoring with a goal at 11:13, assisted by Curley, before Cassidy Bonura followed with another goal at 10:36. Binghamton responded with a free position goal by Robinson at 9:16, narrowing the gap. Siena's offense surged with Pollicino's goal at 4:03, assisted again by Curley, and Wamp added two crucial goals, including one with just five seconds remaining, to close the quarter.
