Central Florida plated a seven-run first inning to defeat Siena Baseball 13-1 in seven innings in the middle game of a season-opening three-game weekend series in Orlando.
Siena (0-2) scratched across its first run and lead of the young season in the opening frame.
Nick Bergamotto and
Aidan Paradine produced singles, while
Jake Sparks legged out a run-scoring fielder's choice to get the Saints on the board.
But Big 12 foe UCF (2-0) batted around in the home half of the first, sending 12 men to the plate. The Knights registered seven runs on seven hits to claim a commanding early lead.
UCF added three more runs in the third to put it away. Jordan Lodise homered as part of a three-hit afternoon with three runs scored and three RBI to pace the Knights.
Freshman
Scott Lynch singled in his first collegiate at-bat to account for the third and final Siena hit on the afternoon. Sacred Heart transfer Joey Trombley, whom the Saints defeated last spring in Loudonville, went the first six innings to earn the win for UCF.
Siena will look to salvage its season-opening three-game weekend series Sunday at 1 p.m.
