No. 22 Wake Forest struck early with five runs over the first two innings to take the middle game of the series with an 8-1 decision over Siena Baseball in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Wake Forest (5-1) scored three in the first and added a pair in the second to claim a commanding early lead. Luke Costello led the charge with a pair of hits, runs scored, and three RBI on the evening for the Deamon Deacons offense, while leadoff man Javar Williams scored three runs.
Siena (0-5) scratched across its lone run in the fifth when
Owen Pincince doubled and was then singled home by
Josh Thompson. Pincince paced the Saints with two of the five total hits.
Chris Levonas went five strong to earn the win, registering 10 of the 18 total strikeouts by Wake Forest pitching.
Four Siena relievers combined to scatter four hits and three runs (two earned) over six combined solid frames.
The series concludes Sunday at 1 p.m.
