The Siena Men's Tennis team earned their first victory of the season with a 4-0 sweep over visiting St. Bonaventure from the Tri-City Fitness Center in Latham.
Bruno Loch Varella and
Emilio Zavala Salinas each won their singles and doubles matches on the day to lead the Saints (1-4).
Varella, the sophomore from Sao Paulo, Brazil, teamed with freshman
Mateja Stefanovic of Kragujevac, Serbia, to zip past the Bonnies' duo of sophomore Luke Ollivierre and freshman Dilraj Singh Dhillon 6-1.
In singles play, Varella defeated sophomore Alex Kim in straight sets by the scores of 6-3, 6-1 from the No. 4 position.
At the singles No. 6 spot, Zavala Salinas topped Ollivierre 6-1, 6-0 before
Matteo Castellazzi clinched it with 7-5, 3-3 victory as his challenger Dhillon retired from the match.
Siena (1-4) will be back in action next Sunday hosting St. Bonaventure (0-6).
Next up, the Saints will host Colgate (1-1) this Saturday at 6:45 p.m. from the Tri-City Fitness Center in Latham.
