Despite playing shorthanded, the Siena Women's Tennis continued its winning ways with a 4-3 triumph over St. Bonaventure at Tri-City Fitness in Latham.
The Saints (4-0) are now off to their best start in seven seasons, when it also opened with a 4-0 record.
Playing without
Zaara Omar, Siena was forced to forfeit at the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles positions.
Siena persevered despite that with wins off the racquet of
Manuela Gomez,
Selma Bellaouchi,
Reegan Mullaney and
Madeline De Faber-Schumacher.
Bellaouchi added to her team-lead in wins with her 11
th singles victory this season by outlasting senior Kashish Bote 6-2, 5-7, 7-5 at the No. 3 singles spot.
Gomez improved to 9-5 by defeating freshman Sara Montano Parada 5-2 in the first set before Parada retired at the No. 1 spot.
Veterans
Reegan Mullaney and
Madeline De Faber-Schumacher each came through as well, picking up critical wins from the No. 4 and No. 5 spots to secure it for the Saints.
The Saints will be back in action this Saturday, Feb. 14 hosting Colgate (0-3) at Tri-City Fitness beginning at 6:15 p.m.
