NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. — Siena Women's Lacrosse fell to Niagara 10-4 on Saturday at Niagara Field in a conference match up.
The Saints (6-5 overall, 1-2 MAAC) generated just 19 shots and 12 shots on goal.
Niagara (4-7 overall, 3-0 MAAC) was backed by four-goal efforts from both Michaela Delles and Olivia Ng.
Ng scored the opening goal at 6:43, assisted by Avery Olschefskie. Emma Alexander extended the lead with a goal at 4:59. Hannah Kent added another for the Purple Eagles, making it 3-0, before
Koehler Nieman put the Saints on the board with a goal at 2:30. However, Ng scored her second of the quarter at 1:20, giving Niagara a 4-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Delles initiated the scoring in the second quarter for Niagara with a free position goal at 14:17. The Saints responded with a free position goal by
Avery Connolly at 9:12 to narrow the gap.
Elizabeth Wamp capitalized on a player-up advantage, scoring with an assist from
Cass Belsito at 3:42, further closing the deficit. However, Delles struck again for Niagara with 1:54 remaining, assisted by Maddy Gill, to maintain a lead of 6-3 at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Purple Eagles extended their lead with a goal by Ng at 10:37. The Saints responded when Wamp scored with an assist from Connolly at 2:55, narrowing the margin to three. However, Niagara regained control, adding another goal by Ng assisted by Maive Partlow with just 27 seconds remaining in the quarter, capitalizing on a player-up opportunity. The quarter ended with Niagara leading 8-4.
Niagara added two goals in the fourth quarter. Delles scored twice for Niagara, with her first goal at 7:43 and a second, assisted by Maddy Gill, at 4:42. The Saints' attempts to respond were thwarted by Niagara's defense, particularly Haley Terry, who recorded 11 saves. Salter led the Saints with nine saves while
Sydney Hannes had a team-high seven draw controls.
Grace Jones and
Faye Gorman each had two caused turnovers apiece.
Siena will return home to host Mount St. Mary's (MD) (7-4, 3-0 MAAC) this Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Hickey Field.
