LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Women's Lacrosse will hold its regular season home finale when it hosts Iona in a conference matchup on Senior Day with a 3 p.m. tentative opening draw set for Hickey Field.
It is part of a Senior Day doubleheader with the Siena Men's Lacrosse team, who hosts Sacred Heart at 12 p.m. The women's game will follow directly afterwards.
In a Senior Day pre-game tribute at 2 p.m., the team will honor seniors
Emily Danahy,
Cass Belsito and
Kylie Kuhn.
Siena (8-6 overall, 3-3 MAAC) will be seeking to build off stacked wins against Sacred Heart and Marist this past week. The Saints' offense has rebounded of late, averaging 11 goals per game over its last three games.
On defense, Siena has allowed just seven goals per game over the last three including a program-record for the fewest goals allowed in a conference game when it allowed just two scores as part of a 12-2 victory against the Pioneers.
The month of April continues to be highly successful for Siena head coach
Danielle Schwan-Tetreault as her teams have sported a 15-2 record during the month over the last two plus seasons.
However, coach Schwan-Tetreault understands that it is not something to take for granted.
"I think Iona is a really physical team so we got to be ready to take bumps and deal with whatever way the game is being called and just not let that impact our play."
While Iona (3-11 overall, 0-6 MAAC) has not had the season they envisioned, the Gaels have lost four games this season by just a single goal and have many players that helped them reach the 2025 MAAC Championship Game after their postseason run included a 15-7 win over Rider and an 11-10 win over last year's top seed Mount St. Mary's on their field in a MAAC Semifinal.
Siena leads the all-time series with Iona 13-7 and has won five of the prior six match ups with the Gaels including last season's 13-10 win in New Rochelle, NY last April.
The last time these teams met in Loudonville was in 2022 when Siena outlasted Iona 21-20 in a barnburner that included Mary Soures' program-record nine-goal performance.
Junior attack
Olivia Nicholson continues to lead the Saints in goals with 27 and points with 36. Junior
Sydney Hannes has upped her play at the draw circle, totaling 26 of her team-high 54 draw controls over the past four games. The Tyngsborough, MA native now ranks sixth in the MAAC in draw controls per game (3.86).
In net,
McAllister Salter lowered her goals-against average to 8.51 on the season (second in the MAAC), is ranked tied for fourth in the MAAC in saves percentage (.443) and ranks fifth in ground balls per game (2.57).
Iona has been led by junior midfielder Calen Norton, who is a two-way player that has totaled a team-high 24 goals, 19 caused turnovers (ranks ninth in the MAAC in the category) and 25 ground balls.
In goal, senior Lauren Sweeney has racked up 116 saves (tied for second in the MAAC), is ranked seventh in GAA (10.67 per game), and is ranked tied for fourth in saves percentage (.443).
Iona has largely used a committee to win draw controls with three players having earned at least 20 draw controls on the season in Ava Cantillion and Amelia Kelley (23 draw controls apiece) and Sydney Grassi (20 draw controls).
The game will be streamed on
ESPN+ with Tom Schwan on the play-by-play, Lauren Bergin serving as the color commentator and Stephen Jones as the sideline reporter.
