Hailey Deptula put away a career-high five goals and redshirt sophomore
Sara Curley added a hat trick of her own as the Siena Women's Lacrosse rolled to their third straight victory with a 13-6 win over Iona on Senior Day at Hickey Field.
Siena (9-6 overall, 4-3 MAAC) held a commanding 30-12 shots advantage including 24-10 for shots on goal and poured on an offensive display in the fourth quarter with six goals scored in the frame.
Iona (3-12, 0-7 MAAC) narrowed the deficit the 5-4 on a goal by Abby Axe with 9:50 remaining in the third quarter, but that's as close as they would get the rest of the way.
Deptula struck three times in a row within a span of under nine minutes and
Avery Connolly,
Elizabeth Wamp and Curley added a goal each to push the lead to 11-4 with 12:12 left in the fourth quarter to cap a 6-0 run by the Saints.
The first quarter began with both teams displaying strong defensive efforts. Iona opened the scoring at 12:01 with a goal by Axe, assisted by Kacie Scarduzio. Siena responded at 10:07, equalizing with a free position goal by
Sara Curley. Iona briefly regained the lead with a goal from Jocelyn Smith at 7:48, but Siena quickly countered. Deptula scored at 2:55, and
Koehler Nieman added another free position goal with 1:01 remaining, giving the Saints a 3–2 advantage at the end of the quarter.
Siena extended its lead in the second quarter, beginning with a goal by
Kylie Kuhn at 10:58, assisted by
Avery Connolly. Moments later, Deptula capitalized on a ground ball pickup to score, pushing Siena's advantage.
Sydney Hannes dominated the draw controls, securing possession multiple times throughout the period. Iona responded with a goal from Smith, assisted by Axe at 1:40, but Siena maintained a 5–3 lead at the end of the quarter.
Hannes finished with eight draw controls while Bonura added five draw controls, a pair of caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Lauren O'Hagan also had a strong defensive game with three ground balls, two caused turnovers and a draw control.
Siena defeated Iona for the second straight time and have now won six of the past seven meetings dating back to 2019.
Siena cashed in on free-position shots, making 5-of-8 opportunities while the Gaels did not take any on the day.
