Princeton Cools Off Saints

Baseball Drops Midweek Matchup 5-1

Jake Coonin hit a two-run home run to highlight a three-run fifth inning as Princeton cooled off red-hot Siena Baseball 5-1 in a midweek matchup in New Jersey.

Siena (16-25), which had averaged 10.1 runs while winning six of its previous seven games, managed just one run. Seven different Saints tallied one hit apiece, six of which were singles.

Princeton (15-24) scratched across an unearned run apiece in the first and second innings to claim an early lead they would not relinquish. Grant Werdesheim scored in the opening frame and drove in the second run in the second inning to highlight a stat-stuffing 2-2 afternoon with two runs scored, two walks, and a pair of stolen bases.

Siena got on the board on an RBI single from Nick Bergamotto in the seventh. Aidan Paradine was on base a team-high three times for the Saints with a hit and a pair of walks.

James Beasley went the first six shutout innings to earn the win for the Tigers.

Ryan Lundari mopped things up by retiring all six batters he faced out of the Siena bullpen, while striking out three.

The Saints continue a five-game week when they open a critical weekend series vs. Saint Peter's Friday at 3 p.m. at Connors Park.
