LOUDONVILLE, NY – Incoming Siena Men's Basketball freshman Andrés Amón is set to represent his native Spain on the world stage. The 7-1 center from Madrid will compete for Spain at the FIBA U20 Eurobasket Tournament July 11-19 in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
Amón has been training with the Spain U20 team since June 16, and already competed in a pair of tournaments in preparation for FIBA U20 Eurobasket. He helped guide Spain to a combined 4-2 record (2-1 mark apiece) at the Dommengge di Cadore Tournament in Italy (June 26-28) and the Utebo Tournament in Spain (July 4-6). In six total games between the two events, Amón averaged 3.7 points and 5.7 rebounds (2.8 offensive) while shooting 53% from the field spanning an average of 15:09 minutes.
Amón is part of a 12-man Spain U20 roster which includes fellow NCAA Division I players Bruno Alocen (Valparaiso), Iker Garmendia (Elon), and Raúl Villar (Elon). Spain is making their 23
rd consecutive appearance in the FIBA U20 Eurobasket Tournament, having won gold three times, most recently in 2022.
Spain is one of 16 nations competing in the FIBA U20 Eurobasket Tournament, including one of four in Group C, which includes Belgium, Croatia, and Greece. Spain opens against Belgium on Saturday, July 11 at 7:30 AM EST at Stozice Arena in Ljubljana, Slovenia, before completing group stage play Sunday vs. Croatia (2:30 PM ET) and Monday against Greece (12 PM EST).
All 16 teams qualify for the knockout rounds which begin Wednesday, July 15. The final is set for Sunday, July 19. All games will be streamed live on FIBA's YouTube page at youtube.com/fiba.

Nevada Smith. Amón broke out with Club Baloncesto Estudiantes, S.A.D. this past season in the Third Division FEB in his native Spain. He averaged 10.9 points and 9.6 rebounds spanning 24 regular season contests, posting nine double-doubles including in each of his final three games where he averaged a whopping 17.0 points and 20.3 rebounds. Amón played a vital role for Movistar Estudiantes B's promotion – averaging 11.3 points and 11.7 rebounds in three playoff games – earning him a late-season promotion to Estudiantes' First Team.
