CLIFTON PARK, NY – GTM Payroll & HR, a leader in workforce solutions that integrate payroll, human resources, insurance, and employee benefit services, has launched a new partnership with Siena University athletics under which a share of the revenue from Siena-referred business clients to GTM will go toward compensating Siena student athletes.
The arrangement is straightforward. When Siena introduces a business to GTM, and that business becomes a GTM client, a percentage of the revenue returns to Siena to support the student athlete Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) program.
Payroll, human capital management, and human resources are services most companies are already buying. This partnership provides organizations with a way to financially support Siena athletics without increasing their costs or sacrificing the quality of their services.
"Siena's alumni base and this region have helped GTM flourish," said Guy Maddalone '89, founder and CEO of GTM Payroll & HR. "What this partnership does is take that growth and give back to the school and the region. When Siena athletics does well, the region gains a high level of exposure, which benefits everyone who lives and works here."
In March, the Saints Men's Basketball team won the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship and reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010, drawing Duke in the first round. Siena's near-upset of the number one overall seeded Blue Devils averaged 5.43 million viewers on CBS, making it the most-watched game of the tournament's opening day.
For a region of roughly a million people, that is a rare kind of visibility.
Siena opted into the House Settlement in June 2025, which permits Division I institutions to share athletic revenue directly with players. That fall, the school launched its
Athletes & Champions Revenue Sharing Fund to provide direct support to student athletes and to stay highly competitive in collegiate athletics. Most of that funding to date has come from donors and corporate contributions.
The GTM partnership is structured differently and doesn't rely on one-time gifts or sponsorship commitments to generate revenue.
"At Siena, we are committed to developing meaningful partnerships that create lasting value for both our university and the businesses within our extended community," said
John D'Argenio, Siena Vice President/Director of Athletics. "This innovative collaboration with GTM offers a unique opportunity to strengthen their payroll and HR operations while playing a direct, impactful role in advancing Siena Athletics and enhancing the student athlete experience."
More funding means better roster stability, which is critically important in the transfer portal era, when programs across Division I rebuild their rosters annually.
In the short term, the partnership aims to generate $100,000 each year for Siena over the next three years.
GTM is the first organization to enter this type of arrangement with Siena, and this partnership extends a decades-long relationship between the company and the university. GTM is a longtime sponsor of Siena Men's and Women's Basketball, and the Maddalone Wall of Success at Siena's Stack Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, established through Maddalone's support and inducting a new class of alumni founders each year since 2014, has celebrated more than 100 businesses started by Siena alumni.
