ORLANDO, Fla. - Siena dominated play but Manhattan scored with just under six minutes remaining in the game to eliminate Siena from the MAAC Tournament 1-0 Thursday afternoon.
Lindsay Berstein scored the gamewinner for the fifth-seeded Lady Jaspers (8-8-1) in the 85th minute. Jeanne Marie Gilbert made eight saves for the victors while Saints goalie Noel Cox (Uniondale, N.Y./Uniondale) made three saves in the loss.
The fourth-seeded Saints, who finish the season 10-8, outshot Manhattan 17-8 but were unable to find the back of the net. Siena's 10 wins and fourth-place finish were its best since 1997. The 10 wins were also a six-win improvement over the 2000 season.
The future is bright as well for Siena women's soccer, as the Saints have just one senior among the 26 players on coach Steve Karbowski's roster.
