Siena Falls to Army

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Once again Army (12-10) had some outstanding individual efforts as the Black Knights topped non-league foe Siena (16-9), 3-1, in a wild offensive affair that produced 334 total attacks. Siena captured the match's third frame to temporarily halt the Black Knights' thunder, however Army took the first, second and fourth games with scores of 33-31, 30-25 and 30-24.

The Black Knights had three players register double-digits in kills, with junior Leah Shubin leading the way with 22. Freshman Jamie Lister added 20 and senior Stacy Gervelis finished 15 times.

Gervelis was one of three seniors competing in their final home game of their career and all had a productive night. Besides accounting for 22% of the team's kills, Gervelis added nine blocks, setting a new career-high for stuffs. Co-captains Beth Bellinger and Katie Konkel were just as effective. Bellinger collected 62 assists, while making a game-high 17 digs. Konkel capped her career at Gillis Field House with three service aces and five defensive pics.

Army recorded 13 team blocks during the contest and never seemed to be in trouble. The Black Knights suffered their only setback of the evening in the third game, where Army was routinely whistled for ball-handling errors and illegal attacks.

The Saints were paced by the dynamic duo of Diana Wierzba and Lauren Weber. Wierzba had 15 kills and 14 digs in the losing effort, while Weber added 13 kills and 14 digs to Siena's totals. Sarah Watkins posted 36 assists to lead the offensive charge.
