Siena Basketball Announces Award Winners

ALBANY, N.Y. - The Siena College men's basketball team announced the programs individual award winners at its postseason banquet, held at the Armory Center in Albany on Tuesday night.

The Saints finished the 2000-01 season with a 20-11 overall record and were tri-champions of the MAAC regular season.

Senior guard Isaiah Stewart (Bridgeville, Pa./Chartiers Valley) was the recipient of the Dan Cuhna Best Defensive Player Award for the third consecutive season, while freshman Justin Miller (Lakewood, N.Y./Southwestern) garnered Jim Sullivan Most Improved Player honors.

Junior Dwayne Archbold (Brooklyn, N,Y./Paul Robeson), was named the winner of the Billy Harrell Rebounder Award. Archbold pulled down a team-best 6.0 rebounds during the campaign in addition to leading the team in scoring.

Senior Carmen Maciarello (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) earned the Benjamin Kuhn, O.F.M. Student-Athlete Award after achieving a 3.50 GPA in marketing/management. Senior Scott Knapp (Sherrill, N.Y./Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) and junior Dwayne Archbold (Brooklyn, N.Y./Paul Robeson) shared the Doc Marcelle Most Valuable Players Award. Archbold led the team in both rebounding and scoring while Knapp was second on the team with 13.6 points per game and posted a MAAC-best 83 three-pointers. In addition, Knapp was given a career achievement award for becoming the schools' all-time leading three-point shooter (283).

Robert Davey (Class of '77) was the recipient of the Howard J. Tucker Award, recognizing dedication and loyalty to the Siena basketball program.
