C.W. Post Doubles Up Saints 12-6

Jumping out to a 6-1 halftime advantage helped propel the C.W. Post Pioneers to victory in their season opener, knocking off the Siena Saints 12-6 at Bob Blitz Field on Saturday, March 17.

Post struck first on two goals with less than five minutes gone on scores from Trisha Moran and Shaden Ghattas, but Siena (0-1) sliced the deficit to one with a score off the stick of Sarah Estes with 36:01 left in the first half.

Soon after, Post took control of the game with three goals within a 88-second span to make it 5-1 in favor of the Pioneers with 29:35 to go in the half, then notched another score with 6:01 left before intermission to give Post the five-goal margin.

After boosting their lead to 11-2, the Pioneers watched Siena outscore them 4-1 in the final 10 minutes to chop the final to 12-6, with Lauren Cramer's score at the 57:48 marking the final tally for the Pioneers.

Ghattas led all scorers with three goals and an assist, while Lundy and Moran each connected on a pair of shots for Post. Kristen Sibilia led Siena with two goals and Stephanie Petruccelli added a pair of assists for the Saints.

In goal, sophomore Jen Borrero stopped six shots for the Pioneers while Mary-Elizabeth Dupelle finished with 19 saves on the afternoon for Siena.

Siena plays next on March 28th in its home opener against Sacred Heart.
