Fairfield Cruises Past Siena Women's Lax 13-5

Fairfield, Conn: The Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse team scored four goals in the first 8:12 of play to open a 4-0 lead and defeat the Saints of Siena College 13-5 today on University Field. Senior Colleen Cunningham (New Canaan, CT) had a game high three goals, six shots, four ground balls, and two draw controls.

Megan Uhr (Huntington, NY) opened the scoring just 1:56 into regulation, when she found the back of the net off a Jessica Conahan (Milton, MA) pass. Caitlin Perry (Saratoga Springs, NY), Megan Main (Point Lookout, NY), and Shannon Moran (Annapolis, MD) scored the next three for the Stags. At 19:31 Gina Purpura scored for Siena to narrow the gap to 4-1. Fairfield finished the first half ahead 7-3.

Siena narrowed the margin to 7-4 just 30 seconds into the second half on a goal by Jessica Laut, but Lauren Uhr (Huntington, NY) quickly answered for Fairfield with one of her two goals just 40 seconds later to extend the margin back to four. Siena scored once more at 10:26 on a goal by Stephanie Petruccelli. Four Stags, including Cunningham (3), Moran (2), Uhr (2), and Perry (2), had multiple goal games.

Purpura, Petruccelli, Dana Sherrer, Cynthia Gutierrez, and Jessica Laut all scored goals for the Saints. Laut added an assist as well.

Freshman Debbie Brancato (Westport, CT) made 11 saves, and records the win in goal for Fairfield. Mary-Elizabeth Dupelle made 12 saves, and records the loss for the Saints.

The win improves Fairfield's record to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in the MAAC, and drops Siena to 0-5 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
