Saints Topped by Catamounts 11-8

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y.-- The Siena women's lacrosse team was defeated today by the visiting Vermont Catamounts 11-8 at Siena Field.

The Catamounts took an early lead on goals by Courtney LaMere and Blair Griffin that put Vermont up 2-0 less than five minutes into the game. Siena's Sarah Estes (Scotia, N.Y./Scotia-Glenville) answered right back scoring two goals that came less than 30 seconds apart to tie the game up at two apiece. LaMere and Griffin reeled off two more of the Catamounts' three goals over the next 12 minutes, to put Vermont back on top 5-2. The Saints battled back behind two more goals by Estes and a breakaway goal by junior Jessica Laut (Floral Park, N.Y./Manhattan College) as Siena trailed 6-5 going into halftime.

In the second half, Vermont took a three goal advantage less than midway through the period. Siena's Stephanie Petruccelli (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) cut into the Catamounts lead when she found the back of the net on an assist by Diana Bernstein (Floral Park, N.Y./Sacred Heart). Vermont extended their lead on two quick goals that gave them a 10-6 lead with 7:03 remaining in the game. Estes responded for the Saints with her fifth goal of the game with 5:38 remaining in the contest. Cynthia Gutierrez (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) tacked on the Saints' final goal of the game with one second remaining on the clock off a pass from Isabel Ohanian (Loudonville, N.Y./Shaker).

Siena goalie Mary-Elizabeth Dupelle (Feeding Hills, Mass./Agawam) posted 12 saves while facing 27 shots by Vermont.

The Saints will next be in action at Manhattan College on April 14 at 3:30 p.m.
