Freshman Diana Wierzba was honored as MAAC Rookie of the Week on Monday, September 10 after leading the Saints to the Championship of the Holiday Inn Express Stony Brook Invitational.

Wierzba helped the Saints to consecutive victories over Stony Brook, Quinnipiac and Holy Cross. On the week, the diminutive outside hitter averaged 12 kills per game and connected on better than 22% of her attacks. In the five-game win over the host Seawolves, Wierzba had 15 kills and 15 digs.

Wierzba was selected New York State Player of the Year as a senior at Eden High School just south of Buffalo in Western New York last year after leading her team to the state championship. She currently is second on the team in kills and digs and has helped the Saints to an 8-1 record.
