Gunta Basko Wins Fourth MAAC Player of the Week Award

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - For the fourth time in eight weeks, the MAAC named Siena junior Gunta Basko the Player of the Week Monday. The defending MAAC Player of the Year posted back-to-back double-doubles in leading the Saints to victories over Canisius and Niagara. With the wins, Siena has won 10 games in a row and 20 straight against conference foes.

Basko (Olaine, Latvia/Riga Secondary #3) started the week with 30 points and 16 rebounds against Canisius. She added four steals, three assists and three blocks. The Latvian followed that up with 15 points, 14 rebounds, three assists and three steals against Niagara. Basko has tied a career-best with six straight double-doubles and has 11 overall on the season.

The junior leads Siena in seven different statistical categories: points (19.4), rebounds (11.8), blocks (1.5), steals (3.2), field goal percentage (.497), three-point percentage (.387) and free throw percentage (.795).

Siena (10-3/5-0 MAAC) has won 10 straight games following an 0-3 start. The Saints have also won 20 straight games against conference foes, the second-longest streak in the nation behind Louisiana Tech.

The Saints return to action Wednesday against Marist. Tipoff in the ARC is set for 7:00 p.m.
