Siena Announces Changes in Men's Basketball Radio Broadcasts

Oct. 9, 2002

Siena College announced the appointment of Robert Lee to the position of men's basketball play-by-play announcer for the upcoming 2002-2003 season. Director of Athletics John D'Argenio also announced that all of the games will air on Today's Hit Music 88.3 The Saint.

Lee had served as a sports information/marketing assistant in the department since September of 2000 and also as the voice of the Siena football and women's basketball teams. He will now be exclusively responsible for calling the action of all the men's basketball games this season. In addition to serving as the play-by-play voice for the Saints, Lee has held several minor league baseball jobs, most recently with the Albany-Colonie Diamond Dogs in the summer of 2001.

Lee is a 1999 graduate of Syracuse University's Newhouse School of Public Communication where he served as the sports director for WAER-FM providing the play-by-play for the Orangemen basketball, football and lacrosse teams. He also served as an intern for WCPO-TV in his native Cincinnati during the summer of 1997. In the summer of 1999 he was the voice of the Butte Copper Kings in Butte, Montana and in the summer of 2000 he broadcasted for the Dubois County Dragons of the Frontier League.

"Robert has done an excellent job the past few seasons and is well prepared to take over the men's radio position," D'Argenio said. "His working knowledge of Siena basketball and experience as an employee in the department should provide for a smooth transition."

The move to WVCR 88.3 FM makes "The Saint" the home for all Siena sporting events. The women's basketball games will continue to be broadcast on the campus station as will football.

Last year, WVCR opened a brand new studio and expanded its power to 35,000 watts as it made its full-time move to the state-of-the-art Sarazen Student Union.

"We are extremely excited to broadcast the Capital Region's premier sporting events and bring the excitement of Siena basketball to its loyal followers," General Manager Kenneth Jubie of WVCR said.
