LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - After helping to extend Siena's winning streak to 17 games, Liene Jansone was named the MAAC Player of the Week Monday. The award was the first this season for last season's Rookie of the Year and MAAC Tournament MVP.
Jansone (Riga, Latvia/Riga Secondary #45) scored a career-high 29 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead Siena past Niagara. Jansone scored the game-winning basket with three seconds remaining in the 75-73 win. She followed that up by posting 16 points and five rebounds in the Saints' win over Canisius.
After missing the season's first seven games with a stress fracture in her foot, Jansone has come on to be the team's second-leading scorer (15.3) and rebounder (6.7). She also leads the team in field goal percentage (.606).
Jansone and the Saints put their 17-game winning streak and 27-game run against conference opponents on the line Thursday against rival Fairfield. Tipoff at the Pepsi Arena is set for 6:00 p.m.
