NEW BRITAIN, CT (April 23, 2002) - The Central Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team was victorious over visiting Siena College today by a score of 11-8 in women's lacrosse action at Arute Field.
Senior Tracey Uellendahl (Albertson, NY) led the way scoring six goals and notching one assist. Her goal with a little over eight minutes left in the game was the 100th of her collegiate career, making her the first Blue Devil to ever accomplish that feat.
The Blue Devils had an 8-3 lead after one half, with Uellendahl scoring four goals and sophomore Erin Sacharko (West Hartford, CT) scoring two leading the way. The second half was a different story as Siena put a scare into the CCSU squad by opening the second half with a 3-1 run highlighted by sophomore Stephanie Petruccelli (Massapequa, NY) scoring once and assisting on another goal. Uellendahl quickly responded with two goals of her own and the Blue Devils were able to hold on for the victory, which was the second win ever versus a Division I school for CCSU.
Freshman goalie Kristin Elliott (Exeter, NH) played exceptionally well making 16 saves, many of them off of shots from close range, with her solid play keeping the Blue Devils in the game. Sophomore goalie Mary-Elizabeth Dupelle (Feeding Hills, MA) also played well for Siena, making 15 saves.
After the game CCSU head coach Greg Styles said "We played a good game today. It feels good to get our second victory ever versus a Division I school. I hope that we can carry this momentum into next season. We have a good core of players to build around, so the future looks bright for our program. Congratulations to Tracey for scoring her 100th goal, I look forward to seeing her fill up the net a lot more for us next season."
With the close loss, the Saints fell to 0-13 on the season. Siena closes the season by hosting Manhattan on Friday at 4:00.
