Womenscollegehoops.com Names Gunta Basko Preseason All-American

June 10, 2002

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The accolades are already rolling in for Siena senior Gunta Basko. After being named MAAC Player of the Year each of the past two seasons, Basko was named an honorable mention preseason All-American by womenscollegehoops.com.

The senior is one of just 27 players nationwide to be named to the team. She is also one of just five players on the team that does not play in one of the so-called "Big Six" conferences. Basko adds this honor to her already full trophy case. Following the 2001-2002 season, Basko was one of six players named a District 2 Kodak All-American.

Basko (Olaine, Latvia/Riga Secondary #3) became just the third player to be named MAAC Player of the Year twice in 2002. As a junior, Basko averaged 18.4 points and 10.5 rebounds per game in leading Siena to its fourth MAAC regular-season championship in the last five years.

The Latvian will enter her final season already in seventh place on the school's all-time scoring list and fifth on the rebounding list.
