ALBANY, N.Y. - Senior Prosper Karangwa scored 13 straight points to start the second half guiding Siena (18-9/12-6 MAAC) to a season-ending 100-69 rout of Saint Peter's (9-18/6-12) before 8,410 fans at Albany's Pepsi Arena late Saturday afternoon. Karangwa finished with a game-high 28 points in the final regular-season outing of his career.
Siena's 100 points were their most since scoring 100 in a victory over Iona in January of 2000. The margin of victory was the highest since a 40 point drubbing of Rider later that same season. The 8,410 spectators pushed Siena over the 100,000 fan mark for the first time in school history. The 100,000th fan was rewarded with a pair of season tickets for next season.
Freshman sensation Keydren Clark scored 24 to lead the way for Saint Peter's in a losing effort. The game turned ugly in the second half as three Saint Peter's players fouled out and Peacock Regis Devonish was ejected following consecutive technical fouls.
Senior Michael Buhrman, starting his first game of the season, controlled the opening tap to Karangwa who fed Michaeld Haddix for a quick layup igniting a 13-5 Siena run to start the game. Saint Peter's would get no closer than four the remainder of the way, and led just briefly at 5-4.
In all, 10 players scored for Siena, which controlled every aspect of the game. Tommy Mitchell added 20 points, and Michael Haddix had his third consecutive double-double by halftime--he finished with 15 points and 16 rebounds. The Saints dominated the glass, garnering their second 50+ rebound performance of the season in out-boarding the Peacocks 53-33.
Siena assured itself of at worst a four seed in the upcoming MAAC Championships in Trenton, N.J. next weekend meaning its first game will take place on Saturday.
