Jamal Jackson scored career highs of 12 points and 11 assists as Siena rallied from a double-figure deficit for the second straight game to top Loyola 77-67 before 5,318 fans at Albany's Pepsi Arena Thursday night. Charlie Bell led all scorers with 25 points in a losing effort for the Greyhounds.
Loyola (1-22/1-13 MAAC) sprinted to an 8-0 lead at the first media timeout, and led by as many as 10 on two different occasions before the intermission. The Saints (9-14/6-8) closed the first stanza on a 9-2 run to close within 34-31 at the half on a Mike Beers three-pointer with 10 seconds remaining.
Beers connected on 4-of-10 three-point attempts and finished with 14 points for the Saints. Michael Haddix led the victors with 17 points and eight rebounds, scoring 12 points after the break.
Siena gained its first lead on a decisive 18-0 run that started with two Jackson free throws at the 18:48 mark. The Saints had five steals and limited the Greyhounds to just four shots over the six-minute spurt, assuming command of the game with a relentless pressure defense led by Jackson.
Loyola closed the gap to as few as three points, 60-57, on a Lindberg Chatman three-pointer with 6:43 remaining.
The Saints scored 13 of the next 18 points, capped off by a Haddix three-point play to seal the outcome.
Jim Chivers joined Bell in double-figures with 11 points (nine in the first half) to round out Loyola's 10+ point scorers.
Tommy Mitchell had 12 points to join Beers, Jackson and Haddix in doubles for the Saints.
Siena travels to MAAC-leading Manhattan on Sunday for an MSG televised 4 p.m. tip with the Jaspers.
