Head coach Steve Karbowski enjoyed a season full of peaks and valleys in his seventh year on the sidelines for the Saints. Karbowski increased his conference record to 34-22-7 during his tenure which ranks first in the program's history. Another record was set this season as Siena recorded its 150th victory in program history on October 15 against archrival Marist, 1-0. The Green and Gold sped out of the gate recording a 7-4 record through the end of September outscoring their opponents 31-15 including two of three shutout victories on the season.
In a season where the Saints went 10-8-1, all of their losses were by no more than two goals. In victories, Siena recorded three victories by four or more goals and a pair of wins by seven or more goals. Scoring was the strength through the first five weeks of the season and ironically it turned into a weakness over the season's final month. In October, the Saints were outscored 14-11 in a 3-4-1 month. The Green and Gold's 6-2-1 mark was good for the third seed in the MAAC Tournament and a bye in the first round. In the quarterfinal round, Siena matched up against the sixth seeded Red Foxes. Marist returned the favor and shutout the Saints 2-0 to end the season.
The Saints had their strongest stretch of the season from September 16 through the end of the month. They enjoyed a 5-1 record during that span outscoring their opponents by an astounding 25-6 margin. Siena blasted Howard in the opening round of the Governor's Cup on September 16 by a score of 8-0. A trio of players netted two goals apiece in the game including Erin Morine, Courtney Preziosi and Alicia Lackey. Sophomore Amy Loughridge posted her own two goal game on September 23 at home against Saint Peter's in a 7-0 win. Junior Kristen Turner notched a pair of two goal games on the season (9/3 and 10/21).
Chelsea Maguire set a season team high with three assists displaying her pin point passing on September 16 in the 8-0 win over Howard. The Saints also got a pair of assists from Erinn Flaherty (9/23) and Kristen Turner (10/9) in games this season.
The most astounding individual performance of the season came October 9 in a 4-2 victory over Canisius. Tri-captain Alicia Lackey recorded her first career hat trick with all three goals giving the Saints the lead. That culminated a week in which the Niskayuna, N.Y., native scored six consecutive goals for the Saints in a four game stretch. The offensive explosion earned Lackey the MAAC's Offensive Player of the Week award.
Numerous individual accomplishments were attained this season. A pair of Saints, Turner and Lackey, recorded at least 20 points and four players had double-figure point totals. Chelsea Maguire and Amy Loughridge each had five or more assists on the season. Susie Blaisdell and Lackey blasted home two game winning goals apiece. The Green and Gold were 3-for-4 in penalty kick situations; Courtney Preziosi converted both of her attempts along with Loughridge completing her only opportunity.
The Saints bid farewell to three seniors, Alicia Lackey, Corry Silon, Anna Revette. The Green and Gold will return 22 players (nine seniors, eight juniors, and five sophomores) from this season's squad as they look to build upon the improving legacy of women's soccer at Siena College.
