Siena Water Polo Falls 0-2 in MAAC Opener

April 9, 2005

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.-Siena's women's water polo program lost their first two matches against MAAC competition Saturday with a double-digit 15-4 loss to Wagner and an 8-5 deficit to St. Francis in the McCann Center at Marist College. With the loss, the Saints fall to 8-9 and 0-2 in league play.

In the match against St. Francis, Shanna Allen registered three goals to pace the Saints. Freshman Caitlin Smith also chipped in a pair of tallies, but it wasn't enough as the Terriers held the Saints scoreless in the third quarter. St. Francis went out to a 5 - 1 lead, but it was Allen's two goals that cut it to 5 - 3 in the 3rd quarter.

Against Wagner, the Seahawks fired off unanswered seven goals in the second quarter, taking a comfy 10-2 lead at the break. The Saints responded with two goals, but it wasn't enough as Wagner pulled away with the 15-4 win. Jeanette Ogren managed to snatch five steals in the loss.

Siena's goalkeeping tandem of Kaedy Graves and Ogren had 11 saves combined.

The Saints continue league play tomorrow with a pair of matches against Villanova at 1 p.m. and Marist at 4 p.m.
