LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Siena water polo team held their annual alumni game at the Siena Swim Center on Saturday. The Green and Gold Game featured 18 goals with nine players accounting for the scoring.
"We are starting to see more production from our younger players. They are becoming more comfortable with their teammates," said second year head coach Rob Swingle. "This game offered us a great opportunity for our team to gain valuable experience. It will be exciting to see how we, as a team, continue to improve in the coming months."
Scoring came in bunches for the Saints with six players finding the net at least two times.
The freshmen recruits had a coming out party. Three recorded hat tricks with eight of the 18 goals coming from the class of '09.
Lauren Biehle (Visalia, Calif.), Sarah Schneider (Lansdale, Penn.), and Lauren Garrigan (Kailua, Hawaii) all netted three goals in their first action in the pool for the Saints.
Sophomore Caitlin Smith (Miami Springs, Fla.) joined freshmen Erin Clune (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) and Lynn Whitmire (Houston, Texas) as Saints who scored two goals in the intra-squad match.
Whitmire also added three assists to lead the team followed by an assist apiece for eight other Saint players.
Siena's 14-player roster consists of seven freshmen, two sophomores, three juniors, and two seniors.
