Feb. 12, 2006

Bucknell Box Score | George Washington Box Score

College Park, Md. - The Siena Water Polo team fell to the Bucknell Bison and the George Washington Colonials at the Terrapin Invitational in College Park, Md., to officially open the season on Saturday. The Saints were defeated by the Bison, 14-3 in the first match up, while losing to the Colonials, 9-4, to cap off the day's events.

Freshmen Aubrey Rowe and Megan Gins helped the Bison jump out to an early 2-0 lead by the closing of the first quarter. The Saints countered in the second when junior Jeannette Ogren put the Green and Gold on the board during a 6-on-5 advantage at the 6:14 mark, bringing the Saints within a goal at 2-1. Ten seconds later, freshman, Lauren Garrigan registered her first NCAA goal, trickling the ball through the water into the back of the net.

After Bucknell posted 12 unanswered goals, the Saints got one back when Ogren scored her second and final goal of the game on a man-up advantage for the Saints with 39 ticks remaining in the game. Siena's physical defense held the Bison at bay in the fourth quarter, only allowing two goals.

In the second of the two games, the Colonials took an early 2-0 lead on back-to-back goals by juniors Morgan Hooker and Jenna Burnett. In the waning seconds of the first quarter, senior Shanna Allen scored the first goal of the game for the Saints, cutting the deficit to one, 2-1.

After the Colonials tallied two more goals before halftime, the Green and Gold clawed back to within two when freshman Lauren Biehle notched her first two career goals as a Saint at the 5:00 and 4:17 marks, respectively.

The Colonials ran off four straight goals before freshman Lynn Whitmore scored the last goal for the Saints with 21 seconds remaining in the game.

The Saints now prepare for the two-day Bucknell Invitational on February 25 and 26, in Lewisburg, Penn. The Saints are slated to square-off against Bucknell and George Washington on day one, while taking on Slippery Rock University and Marist College on day two to close out the event.
