College Park, Md. - The Siena Water Polo team (0-4, 0-0) fought hard and even outscored Maryland in the second half but came up on the short end of a 9-5 final in the final game of the Maryland Invitational this afternoon.
At halftime, the Saints trailed 6-1 and came out with renewed vigor after the intermission. The Green and Gold outscored the Terps 4-3 in the second half.
Five Saints fired home a goal each as Lauren Biehle, Anne Lafex, Lauren Garrigan, Shanna Allen and Caitlin Smith each found net. Due to an injury to Kaedy Graves, Caitlin Smith had played goal in the previous three games of the tournament and notched a goal in her first game as a field player.
Allen fouled out of the game but not before she shook things up with three ejections drawn to lead Siena in that category.
Getting the start in the cage was Jeannette Ogren who made nine saves for the Green and Gold.
The Saints now prepare for the two-day Bucknell Invitational on February 25 and 26, in Lewisburg, Penn. The Saints are slated to square-off against Bucknell and George Washington on day one, while taking on Slippery Rock University and Marist College on day two to close out the event.
