Final Stats
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The sharp shooting of freshman Lynn Whitmire and junior Anne LeFex propelled the Siena water polo team to victory over the Pioneers of Utica College, 16-1, Thursday night at the Siena Swim Center. By game's end, Whitmire and LaFex amassed four goals apiece.
The Saints burst out to a quick 7-0 lead in the first period, led by freshmen Lauren Biehle, Lauren Garrigan and LaFex, who each added two goals. The Pioneers registered their first and eventual lone goal of the game at the 2:06 mark, when senior Jessica Keane fired the ball in the net past Saints' goalkeeper, Kaedy Graves.
Led by Whitmire's back-to-back goals within a 2:19 time frame, the Saints tacked on an additional five goals to their advantage in the second period. As time expired in the first half, the Saints exited the pool with a 12-1 lead.
Whitmire, the reigning MAAC Rookie of the Week, completed her four-goal performance in the fourth period, when she added two goals at the 3:25 and 2:46 marks, respectively. Complimenting her teammate was senior Lauren Earl, who scored her second goal of the game at the 1:32 mark, sealing the win for the Saints.
Next up for the Green and Gold is the two-day Siena Invite, beginning April 1 at the Siena Swim Center.
