POUGHKEEPSIE, NY- Despite out-shooting its opponent 24-14, the Siena women's lacrosse team dropped a close contest to Marist, 7-6, today at Marist Field. With the loss, the Saints drop to 1-8 overall (0-2 MAAC), while the Red Foxes move to 2-6 (1-0 MAAC).
Siena got on the board first when junior Michelle Eide converted off a Niki Burger pass at 25:40. Tara Mullins quickly answered with her first goal of the game three minutes later, assisted by sophomore Val Amodeo. The seesaw continued as junior Lynn Harkins regained the lead for the Saints at 16:32, but Marist scored at 14:33 to knot it at 2-2.
The Saints tallied a pair of unassisted goals during the next minute and a half to go up 4-2 on the Foxes at 13:08. Junior Christina Pampalone snuck in a late goal with just four seconds on the clock to put the Saints up 5-3 at the half.
Marist scored quickly in the second period, as the Red Foxes tallied three goals over a three-minute span. Harkins scored off an assist from Kathryn Marcantonio with 9:24 to play, to knot the game 6-6. Less than two minutes later, Marist converted a free position shot for the game-winning goal at 7:58.
Harkin's led the Saints attack with three goals and four groundballs, while Pampalone added two goals. Bethany Zimmer had seven saves in goal. The Saints return to action tomorrow, when they head to Fairfield, Conn., to face MAAC opponent Fairfield in a 1 p.m. contest.
