Final Stats
Michael Haddix posted his fifth double-double in six games with 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead a balanced Siena effort in a 70-48 win over Canisius Thursday at Times Union Center. It was the second time the Saints had defeated the Golden Griffins in eight days.
Siena (9-6/5-1) held Canisius (6-10/1-5) to just 33% from the field and 15% from 3-point range. The performance came in stark contrast to Tuesday's setback against Loyola when Siena allowed the Greyhounds to score 94 points and shoot 51% from the field. The 48 points were the second fewest allowed this season by Siena.
Freshman Edwin Ubiles did not play in the first half for disciplinary reasons, but came off the bench to score 13 points in 19 minutes in the second. Ubiles also electrified the building with three emphatic slam dunks.
Haddix had 10 points and six rebounds in the first half as the Saints built a comfortable 37-24 lead at the break. Kenny Hasbrouck had 10 of his 16 points before intermission, and Tay Fisher made 3-of-5 3-pointers to account for nine of his season-high 13 points.
Darnell Wilson led Canisius with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Canisius held a 37-34 edge in rebounding, including 15 offensive rebounds.
Freshman Ronald Moore out-played Canisius rookie counterpart Frank Turner at the point for the second time this season. Moore scored six points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out six assists and limited Turner to just 1-for-9 from the floor with his devilish defense.
Siena had 15 assists and 13 turnovers. In all nine wins this season the Saints have posted as many (or more) assists than turnovers.
With the win, Siena jumps a half game in front of both Marist (4-1) and Loyola (4-1) in the MAAC standings.
The Sainst and Red Foxes will square off Monday at Times Union Center at 5 p.m.
