Gerald Brown, the MAAC's leading scorer, scored 33 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead visiting Loyola past Siena 94-87 in overtime Tuesday at the Times Union Center in Albany. Kenny Hasbrouck scored a career-high 29 points in a losing effort for the Saints.
Loyola (8-6, 4-1) pulled even with the Saints (8-6/4-1) in the MAAC standings with the win. The Greyhounds shot 63% from the floor in overtime, and out-scored Siena 20-13 after regulation.
The Greyhounds made 11-of-22 3-pointers and out-rebounded Siena 42-34. Brown led five players in double-figures for the visitors. Michael Tuck came off the bench to score 12 of is 15 points in the second half, including a 3-pointer that gave Loyola a 72-71 lead with 3:07 remaining.
Siena had led 71-66 following a pair of free throws by Hasbrouck, but Josko Alujevic got free in the corner for a three to slice the lead to just two. After Hasbrouck missed a layup, Tuck connected from the opposite corner to give Loyola the lead.
Edwin Ubiles responded with a quick three, but Brown answered on the other end with a twisting layup that tied the score at 74-74 with 1:26 remaining.
Both teams had a chance to win at the end of regulation. Shane James stripped Hasbrouck with seven seconds left as the Saints tried to run an isolation play and hold for the last shot. James and Brown sprinted the length of the court, but Brown misfired on an off-balance game-winning attempt as time expired.
With the score tied 78-78 one minute into the extra session, Loyola scored the next six points and never trailed again. Brett Harvey hit a 3-pointer and Tuck converted a 3-point play to help the Greyhounds seize control.
Michael Haddix scored 23 points and had 12 rebounds for the Saints. He has scored 20 or more points in all five of Siena's MAAC games this season. Edwin Ubiles came off the bench to score 17 points for the Saints.
Siena had won nine straight MAAC games dating back to last season and entered the game as the MAAC's only undefeated team. The Saints host Canisius on Thursday at 7 p.m.
