LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Siena women's soccer team cruised to a 9-0 victory over Saint Peter's (1-14-0, 0-6-0) this afternoon in Loudonville. Eight Saints scored including Tabitha Tice's game winning goal in the 2nd minute of action. Siena juniors Chelsea Maguire and Stephanie DiMari each posted a game-high four points.
Siena (6-7-1, 3-2-0) wasted little time before getting on the scoreboard. In the second minute, Maguire pushed the ball up the right side and served senior co-captain Amy Loughridge a feed in the box. Loughridge found Tice open in front of the goal who finished on the play.
In the 7th minute, Susie Blaisdell extended the Saints lead to 2-0 when she notched her fourth goal of the season thanks to a pair of assists from Maguire and Loughridge. Then with 9:38 on the clock, Maguire connected on the Saints third goal of the contest when she placed a shot into the left corner.
Siena entered intermission with a three goal cushion.
The Saints bombarded the Peahens with their recharged offensive attack in the second half outshooting Saint Peter's 19-2. Siena overwhelmed the Peahens with 29 shots over the contest.
At the 53:07 mark, senior midfielder Tara Ross notched her first goal of the 2007 campaign when she broke free of the defense and blasted one past Peahens goalkeeper Leigha Ashmen. Ashmen notched a game-high 10 saves on the afternoon.
Minutes later, Christina Macera joined in on the scoring jamboree when she posted the Saints fifth goal of the contest. Sophomores Alyssa Thayer and Arielle Brazer then added a pair of goals soon after giving Siena a comfortable 7-0 advantage.
DiMari tallied back-to-back scores in the later stages of the game to secure the 9-0 victory. DiMari's goal in the 84th minute was setup by a precise cross from senior defender Jen Smith.
The Siena defense was solid in the back helping Saints freshman goalkeeper Elizabeth Barna preserve the shutout. Barna tallied one save in 90 minutes patrolling the pipes.
The Saints return to action on Friday afternoon as they are set to square off with Loyola in Baltimore. Game time is slated for 3 p.m.
