Final Stats
Edwin Ubiles scored 22 of his career high 29 points after halftime helping Siena to an 84-77 overtime win over visiting Holy Cross Saturday at Times Union Center. It was the third straight victory and sixth in the last seven games for the streaking Saints. Holy Cross fell for just the second time this season.
"I was very proud of our team's effort today," Siena head coach Fran McCaffery said following the game. "We had to go deep into our bench and I thought the guys we turned to responded."
Siena led the entire second half, building a 10-point lead early, and holding a five-point advantage with 26 seconds remaining. But Holy Cross center Tim Clifford connected on two 3-pointers in the final 12 seconds of regulation. The second make bounced high off the front rim and fell as the buzzer sounded, sending the game to overtime.
The Saints controlled the extra session, holding the Crusaders without a field goal until Clifford converted a lay up with 1:15 to go.
Clifford finished with a team-high 26 points.
Kenny Hasbrouck and Ubiles combined for 50 of Siena's 84 points and together the pair shot 19-24 from the floor. Ronald Moore added 14 points, seven rebounds and six assists for the Saints.
Siena made 25-32 free throws, but missed some key shots toward the end of regulation to allow the Crusaders back in the game.
The Saints won despite a limited effort from sophomore Alex Franklin, who scored a season low three points in just 21 minutes after injuring his back in the first half. More impressive, Holy Cross held just a 36-33 edge on the glass after out-rebounding Siena by 22 in a 65-57 win in Worcester last year.
Josh Duell scored nine points in 27 minutes off the bench. Reserve Ryan Rossiter had four points and three steals in 16 minutes. Cory Magee had five rebounds in one of his most energetic efforts of the season.
Colin Cunningham played with four fouls for the majority of the second half and overtime to finish with 15 points in a losing effort. Pat Doherty and Alex Vander Baan had 15 and 13 respectively for the visitors.
Siena breaks again for Christmas before returning to action Friday night here against St Joseph's. The Saints have won 13 of their last 14 non-conference home games and nine straight in this building dating back to last year.
