Loudonville, N.Y. - The Siena (3-0) women's water polo team knocked off Arizona 12-7 at the Chapman Invitational in Orange, Calif. The Saints used five goals by sophomore center Lauren Biehle to get past the Wildcats. Lauren Garrigan, a sophomore utility player, delivered an impressive performance tallying two goals, two assists and three steals. Garrigan was 4-for-4 on swim offs in the winning effort.
"I was happy with our overall performance tonight," said head coach Rob Swingle. "We played patient, worked with what are opponents gave us and then capitalized on our opportunities."
The Saints jumped out to a 4-3 advantage by the end of the first quarter behind the leadership of Biehle. She was dominant from the center position tallying three of her team-high five goals in the first period. Siena maintained control through the second half and took a 6-3 lead into the half.
Siena returned from the intermission rejuvenated exploding for six goals to secure their third straight victory by a five goal margin (12-7). Junior center Caitlin Smith complimented Biehle's performance well recording three goals, two assists and two steals from the center position.
Juniors Kaedy Graves and Lisa Reilly shared time in goal for the Saints recording five saves and one steal apiece in the winning effort. Reilly made a phenomenal save with 5:57 remaining in the game when she blocked a Wildcats penalty shot.
The Saints went 2-for-4 in man advantage opportunities to the Wildcats 3-for-10 mark. Siena is set to take on Whittier College in their next match-up at the Chapman Invitational.
