Loudonville, N.Y. - The Siena women's water polo team rounded out their trip to California with a 10-1 loss at the hands of California Baptist this afternoon. Freshman utility player Gina Guevara (Weston, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) tallied the sole goal for the Saints in the losing effort.
"We played good half court defense," said head coach Rob Swingle. "We just ran out of gas after playing our sixth game in four days. We struggled putting the ball in the back of the net today."
Guevara tallied an early goal at the 3:55 mark in the first quarter which was assisted by sophomore sensation Lauren Garrigan (Kailua, Hawaii/Kamehameha). By the end of the quarter, the Saints trailed by just one goal (2-1).
Soon thereafter, Cal Baptist pulled away tallying two more goals before the half to take a 4-1 advantage into intermission. They then went on to put in six more before the games end to top the Saints 10-1. Junior goaltender Lisa Reilly (Whittier, Calif./California High School) tallied 15 saves in goal for the Saints playing a complete game.
Siena went 0-for-2 in their 6-on-5 man advantages to Cal Baptists 3-for-4. Guevara drew the team's only two ejections and tallied four steals on the afternoon. Garrigan and Jeannette Ogren (Homewood, Ill./Homewood-Floosmoor) recorded two steals apiece.
The Saints return to action on Saturday at Villanova. Game time is set for 10 a.m.
