Loudonville, N.Y. - The Saints made a second half comeback to top Gannon 9-8 this afternoon at the Penn. State Behrend Invitational. Senior attacker Anne LaFex and sophomore utility Lauren Garrigan notched three goals apiece in the winning effort. LaFex posted the game winning goal with just five seconds remaining in the contest.
"It was a very physical game, but our girls battled well. I was very proud of their performance," said head coach Rob Swingle.
With 4:24 remaining in the first period, Garrigan put the Saints on the board. She sent a penalty shot past the Gannon goaltender to bring Siena within one (2-1). Both teams then added two goals apiece as Siena entered intermission facing a one goal deficit trailing 4-3.
Gannon battled back in the second half. After their four goal fourth quarter, the teams found themselves tied 8-8 with just minutes remaining. Then with the game clock ticking down, LaFex registered the game winning goal with just five seconds remaining.
Senior defender Jeannette Ogren tallied five points and two steals on the afternoon. Erin Clune, a sophomore attacker, tallied a goal in the winning effort.
With the victory, the Saints improve to 7-4 overall. Siena returns to action tonight when they take on Grove City at 7:30 p.m.
