Saints Fall to Cross-Town Rival Albany, 8-5

March 12, 2007

Final Stats

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Siena women's lacrosse team dropped their third straight game at Albany this afternoon. Sophomore midfielder Lindsey Rosecrans (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) led the charge for Siena posting a game-high three goals in the Saints losing effort. Albany midfielder Rory Redmond scored three goals of her own to help propel the Great Danes to a 8-5 victory.

Redmond struck first for the Great Danes recording a goal off a free position shot at the 28:53 mark in the first half. Rosecrans answered back with an unassisted goal of her own nine minutes later to even the score at 1-1.

Albany then rallied for back-to-back goals courtesy of Redmond and fellow midfielder Brittany Scott. But just minutes later, Rosecrans had an answer as she scored two goals within a minute of each other to tie the game at 3-3.

The Great Danes attack proved to be too much for the Saints as they notched a pair of goals before the half to take a 5-3 advantage into intermission.

Senior attacker Christina Pampalone (East Northport, N.Y./Commack) posted the first goal of the second half to bring the Saints with in one with 23:58 remaining. However, that would be the closest Siena would come as Albany tallied three late goals to run away with an 8-5 victory in front of their home crowd.

The Saints struggled clearing the ball as they went 14-for-31 on the afternoon. Albany outshot Siena (28-to-17) and also won the draw control battle (10-to-5).

Heather Ely, a junior goaltender, stepped up for the Saints in net recording 12 saves over 60 minutes of action. While Albany goaltender Jen Daly managed six on the afternoon.

Freshman midfielder Alexandra Kain (Williston Park, N.Y./Mineola) notched her third goal of the season in her third start as a Saint.

With the loss, Siena falls to 0-3 on the season. The Saints will look to rebound on Wednesday when they take on Binghamton in their home opener. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
