Loudonville, N.Y. - The Saints used two goals by freshman utility player Gina Guevara (Weston, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) to get past Grove City 3-2 at the Penn. State Behrend Invitational. With 7:10 remaining in the fourth quarter Guevara connected on the game winning goal to give Siena their third straight win of the Invite.
""It was a grueling day with three games, but I was very happy with how hard our girls played in this last game," explained head coach Rob Swingle. "We dug deep and found a way to pull it out in the end."
Grove City struck first with an early first quarter goal to put them on the scoreboard. With 6:02 remaining in the second quarter Guevara responded with her first goal of the game to even the score at 1-1. Grove City retaliated just minutes later with a goal of their own and took a 2-1 advantage into the half.
The Saints came out of intermission prepared to make a late run, and they did just that. At the 4:04 mark, Sophomore attacker Erin Clune (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Bainbridge) delivered the Saints second goal to even the game once again at 2-2. Then with 7:10 remaining in the contest, Guevara blasted a shot past the Grove City goaltender which proved to be the game winning goal.
Sophomore utility Lauren Garrigan (Kailua, Hawaii/Kamehameha) led the team with three steals on the afternoon. Kaedy Graves (Lake Worth, Fla./Lake Worth Community) and Lisa Reilly (Whittier, Calif./California High School) split time in net for the Saints. Graves recorded four saves in the contest while Reilly managed three.
