Saints Roll Past Binghamton in Home Opener, 18-11

March 14, 2007

Final Stats

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Siena (1-3) women's lacrosse team used five goals from sophomore attacker Ryan Tierney (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baldwinsville) to get past Binghamton 18-11 this afternoon in the Saints home opener. Junior Kathryn Marcantonio (Schenectady, N.Y./Guilderland) tallied five points, while Lindsey Rosecrans (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) tallied four in the winning effort.

The first half proved to be a see-saw battled as the two squads traded the lead six times. Tierney opened up the scoring for Siena with an unassisted goal at the 28:37 mark. However, Binghamton responded quickly with a Danielle Edwards score just 11 seconds later.

Rosecrans and freshman Alexandra Kain (Williston Park, N.Y./Mineola) delivered back-to-back goals to put the Saints back on top 3-1 at the 26 minute mark. The Bearcats refused to go away as they rattled off five goals over the next eight minutes to take their biggest lead of the game 6-4.

Soon thereafter, senior attacker Christina Pampalone (East Northport, N.Y./Commack) blasted a shot past the Binghamton goaltender to spark a 7-1 Siena run. Pampalone finished with two goals on the afternoon. Tierney and Rosecrans tallied two goals prior to the half, while Marcantonio managed one to help lift the Saints to a 10-7 advantage as they entered intermission.

The second half proved to be all Siena as they rallied for eight of the first nine goals scored. Pampalone and Marcantonio opened the half with two consecutive goals, then DiMari capped off the scoring spree with a goal at the 9:14 mark. This proved to be the Saints largest advantage of the game leading 18-8.

Binghamton tallied three more goals, but that proved to be too little too late as Siena ran off with an 18-11 decision. The victory marked the Saints first win of the 2007 campaign.

Siena returns to action on Saturday in a non-conference match-up versus Saint Bonaventure. Game time is set for 1 p.m. on Siena Field.
