Saints Drop Decision to Holy Cross, 19-13

March 22, 2007

Final Stats

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Siena women's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference match-up to Holy Cross 19-13 this evening on John Fallon Field. Saints midfielders Lynn Harkins (Bellmore, N.Y./Holy Trinity) and Lindsey Rosecrans (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) combined for seven goals in the losing effort. Patricia Sutton and Megan Fenton tallied six points apiece at the midfield to lead the Crusaders to their fifth victory of the season.

Holy Cross opened up the scoring with four straight goals in the first 10 minutes of action. With 19:20 on the clock, senior co-captain Christina Pampalone (East Northport, N.Y./Commack) retaliated notching the Saints first goal. Pampalone finished with two goals and an assist in the contest.

The Crusaders posted seven more goals and cruised into the half with an 11-4 advantage. Harkins, Rosecrans and Pampalone each tallied a goal for the Saints prior to intermission.

The Saints entered the second half rejuvenated as they tallied back-to-back goals in the first three minutes cutting the Holy Cross lead down to five. Rosecrans posted the first score at the 29:11 mark, and then Harkins notched another one with 27:15 remaining in the contest.

Holy Cross followed with a four goal binge, but Siena responded with three of their own capped off by a Katie Ostrye (Katonah, N.Y./John Jay) score at 13:49. This cut into the Crusaders advantage bringing the score to 15-9.

Soon thereafter, the Crusaders relentless offensive attack accounted for back-to-back goals coming from Sutton and then Kaitlin Curley extending their lead with 9:56 remaining.

Siena battled back with a late run consisting of three straight goals from Rosecrans, Alexandra Kain (Williston Park, N.Y./Mineola) and Ryan Tierney (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baldwinsville) to bring the contest to 17-12 at the 5:40 mark. However, this would be the closest the Saints would get as time ran out for their comeback hopes.

With the loss, Siena falls to 1-5 on the season. The Saints look to snap a two game winning streak next Friday when they face conference foe Niagara. Game time is set for 4 p.m. on Siena Field.
