LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Siena women's water polo team dropped two consecutive contests this afternoon in Loudonville. The Saints fell 13-8 in their opening match to Marist, then they lost 15-8 to Wagner in the second game. Prior to their contest with the Seahawks, seniors Anne LaFex (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) and Jeannette Ogren (Homewood, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) were honored for all their accomplishments as student-athletes over the past four years.
In the first contest, Marist jumped out to a 7-2 advantage by halftime and never looked back. The Saints made a push in the third quarter thanks to goals from Lauren Biehle (Visalia, Calif./Golden West), Gina Guevara (West, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas), Caitlin Smith (Miami Springs, Fla./Miami Springs) and LaFex. However, the Red Foxes still managed to escape with a 13-8 victory.
The Saints were overwhelmed in the second game of the day with Wagner. The Seahawks put up six goals in the first quarter, then another three in the second to take a commanding 9-2 lead into intermission. Siena (12-10, 1-5) posted six second half goals, but that wasn't enough as the Saints fell 15-8 in their home pool.
Siena returns to action on Saturday in New Rochelle, N.Y. The Saints are set to square off with St. Francis (NY) at 11:30 a.m., and then wrap up the day against Iona at 5:30 p.m.
