Second Half Surge Sends Siena Women's Lacrosse Past Iona

April 15, 2007

Final Stats

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Saints used five second half goals to run away with a 12-8 decision over Iona (6-6, 1-4) this afternoon in New Rochelle, N.Y. Junior midfielder Lynn Harkins (Bellmore, N.Y./Holy Trinity) led the way for Siena (4-8, 3-2) with three goals, while sophomore attacker Ryan Tierney (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baldwinsville) tallied a game-high five points. With the victory, the Saints snap a two game losing skid and earn their first road win of the season.

Iona struck first with a Jaclyn O'Leary goal just 64 seconds into the contest. O'Leary led all scorers with four goals on the afternoon.

The Saints retaliated notching five of the next six goals to take a comfortable 5-2 advantage. Tierney opened up the scoring posting her first of the game with 28:18 on the clock. Kathryn Marcantonio (Schenectady, N.Y./Guilderland) and Alexandra Kain (Williston Park, N.Y./Mineola) followed with the next two scores extending the Saints lead.

Sophomore midfielder Lindsey Rosecrans (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) rounded out the scoring spree with back-to-back goals. Rosecrans also registered an assist in the contest.

The Gaels wouldn't back down easily as they responded with four consecutive goals, three of which were credited to O'Leary. Siena faced a 6-5 deficit at the 11:22 mark in the first half.

The Saints wouldn't trail long as Tierney evened the game less than a minute later, thanks in part to a feed from Christina Pampalone (East Northport, N.Y./Commack). Then with 3:51 on the clock, Pampalone put Siena back on top with her first of two goals in the contest.

The teams entered the half locked at 7-7.

Kain, a freshman midfielder, started with the first goal of the second half to regain the lead. Then Harkins exploded for three consecutive scores to put the game out of reach.

Pampalone, a senior co-captain, notched an insurance goal with 44 seconds remaining to send the Saints off with a 12-8 victory. With the win, Siena improves to 3-2 in the MAAC.

The Saints return to action on Friday when they take on Fairfield. Game time is set for 4 p.m. on Siena Field.
